Wednesday, September 9 marked the 28th and 30th anniversaries of Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot respectively, and dev studio Toys for Bob brought fans the newest looks for Spyro: A Realm Beyond.

Celebrating Spyro’s 28th birthday, TFB has treated fans with new concept art pieces and in-game looks for Spyro and a band of supporting characters. On Twitter, Spyro’s own birthday celebration showed the top of the cake covered in a large question mark that when burned away, revealed said looks of Spyro and creatures from the game’s new setting. Even the music towards the end of the presentation is a bit reminiscent of Steward Copeland’s classic Spyro OST.

The official Activision Blog dives deeper with this showcase, introducing fans with a first look into the new world of Arcadian Vale. This showcase was also teased a few days earlier for the fan-driven Spyro Community Day (or Community Week).

Arcadian Vale captures the charm and wonder that defines Spyro’s new adventure. Made up of a calm, serene atmosphere, Arcadian Vale is a vibrant landscape filled with natural beauty.

Fans also now know the in-game renders of Spyro and some of the creatures of the Arcadian Vale, when previously they were shown in the CGI reveal trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase back in June. Unfortunately, still no Sparx the Dragonfly to be seen, even if it’s due to Spyro being trapped in the new world.

On the upside, fans now have confirmation that sheep (and llamas?) will be inhabitants in the game. The harakeets that debuted in the reveal trailer also have their in-game renders showcased. Additionally, YouTuber Canadian Guy Eh has his own deep dive into A Realm Beyond’s in-game looks.

As previously mentioned, September 9 has also been Crash Bandicoot’s big 30th anniversary, as his first game on the original PlayStation was released on that day in 1996. Though his side of the birthdate didn’t bring anything as big as Spyro’s, fans at the very least were treated to a giveaway on Twitter. Fans have the chance at winning between several Crash Bandicoot merchandise including but not limited to: Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, and the Crash Bandicoot 4 art book.

Overall, fans of the Bandicoot & Dragon duo had plenty to fill their September 9.
