A YouTube-based insider known as malo932 is claiming that an entirely new Super Smash Bros. title and a new Nintendogs game are both in development for Nintendo Switch 2, according to VICE and ComicBook.com. Nintendo has not confirmed either project.
The claims land with a pair of Nintendo Directs scheduled for 8 and 9 September approaching fast.
Malo932 drew attention after predicting both those Directs roughly a week before Nintendo made them official.
The account also leaked the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake and a new Star Fox game for Switch 2, doing so days before prominent insider NateTheHate published similar information, as VICE reported.
That track record is why the gaming community is paying attention now, even though the source's identity and access remain unknown.
What Malo932 Claims About Super Smash Bros.
ComicBook.com notes this aligns with statements Smash creator Masahiro Sakurai has made previously about his reluctance to simply re-release Ultimate given the enormous effort that game required.
Sakurai and his team shipped Kirby Air Riders last year, meaning a new Smash title would likely still be years away.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate released eight years ago. A fresh entry on Switch 2 would be the natural next step for the franchise, and if insiders are already picking up signals about it, Switch 2 games the platform's software pipeline looks increasingly substantial.
The Nintendogs Tease
Fans connected the clues to Nintendogs, the Nintendo DS pet simulation that sold over 23 million copies and remains the second best-selling game on that platform, behind only New Super Mario Bros. Its one sequel, Nintendogs + Cats on 3DS in 2011, sold around four million copies.
The franchise has been dormant for 15 years.
ComicBook.com points out that Nintendogs is relatively inexpensive to produce and carries strong nostalgia, making a revival commercially logical. None of that is confirmation, though.
How Reliable Is This Source?
Malo932 is not a tier-one insider. ComicBook.com is explicit that the account's track record, while notable, is not comparable to established sources in the industry.
The leaks around the Directs and earlier Nintendo titles give the account credibility, but the Smash and Nintendogs claims are still unverified rumours. Nintendo has said nothing publicly about either game.
With at least one Nintendo Direct set for 9 September, players won't have long to wait to see whether any of malo932's tips materialise into official announcements.
